The Gift Shop Manager will be responsible for the management of the efficient and cost effective operations of the hospital shops at Parnassus and Mission Bay plus an online shopping service.
Responsibilities include purchasing, merchandising and marketing products for sale and managing the financial operations of the business. The incumbent will oversee all staff and volunteers. With the goal of providing consistent quality service to patients and visitors, employees and the general public, the Gift Shop Manager is a leader and advocate for patient and staff engagement activities.
Two years of college and three years of experience in a gift shop operation, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position
Three to five years of retail experience including sales management and buying
A professional presence reflecting exceptional customer service, cultural sensitivity, compassion and sound judgment; projects a positive image of UCSF to the public
Excellent interpersonal skills to build productive and healthy working relationships and serve as a role model; must enjoy a team environment.
Good knowledge of retail and merchandising trends with a focus on quality, marketing and presentation
P&L accountability and contract-managed service experience is desirable
Experience with cash retail operations
Retail marketing experiences are highly desirable
Ordering and inventory experience necessary
Supervisory, leadership, management and coaching skills
Good communication skills both written and verbal
Ability to communicate on various levels to include management, customer and associate levels
Knowledge of financial, budgetary, accounting and computational practices
Proficient computer skills to include; various computer programs, Microsoft Office programs, e-mail and the Internet
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple competing responsibilities appropriately
The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
Bachelor’s degree in business, fashion merchandising, or related field from an accredited university
Experience managing multi-site operations
